Wife loved her frutti de mar I was disappointed in the kickin crab soup but thhe calamari was good despite the spider crawling across our table .
The crab cakes are sublime. Garlic Mashed Potatoes are creamy with small bits of potato, so you know they aren't instant, and there's always a choice of the vegetable of the day. Tonight was Honeyed Carrots or Steamed Broccoli. The baby carrot s were delicious and cooked perfectly.
Would love to rate it a 0 so more for me but everything from wait staff to chef and bar are all 5 star. Food is excellent and cooked how u like it. Almost like you have ur own personal chef

They food was very good. It took longer than usual. We waited almost 1 hour for our food. I got the chiefs mix , small prime rib, crab cake , and shrimp. I thought the crab cake was the best.

The complaint first: the mashed sweet potatoes were cold. Otherwise, the BBB&G offers a great dining experience. Our waitress, Sarah, was very attentive. The items on their menu can not be found easily anywhere else. We are looking forward to our return!

The Ice and Fire and Asian Crabcake apps are fantastic! The filet au poivre at Backfin is beyond compare! All the meals that I have had there are amazing! The service is the best anywhere.

The food was really good but was surprised at the cost for the area but you pay for what you get and the food was really good and the service was impeccable.
I had the twin crab cakes and they described as lump well not many lumps of crab a lot of filler. My husband had the veal Oscar it was disappointing as it was not tender now the chefs added big lumps of crab meat on top now that should have been in the crab cakes.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. We went for the 1st time in June 2014 and now try to go whenever we can.
It's a small establishment with delicious food. Travel from Lancaster, PA, to eat here maybe two to three times a year. For the most part it's a friendly atmosphere, however, have encountered some snooty servers on occasion. Like it when the chef visits with the customers and talks about food specials and preparations.
Good food. Way too much kitchen noise in the front room. Chef forgot a major ingredient in a dish - poor initial response to issue. Need to improve roll supply. Slow service. Waitress made a mistake on check (also at the adjacent table).

Food and service are always very good. We had a variety of meal types and everyone was satisfied. A few more choices outside the seafood/beef categories would be welcome. No chicken dishes on the menu at all. Many diners prefer a white meat choice for health reasons.

I debated between getting the regular Eggs Benedict and the Eggs Benedict Chesapeake for an additional $6. I was disappointed with the small amount (about 2 teaspoons) of lump crabmeat on the Chesapeake version of the dish. The food was quite good, I just expected a bit more.

We were there at 5 PM on Christmas Eve. Server was pleasant and efficient; Owner/Chef came out ot greet us - as always! Food was wonderful and nice size serving. Was pleasantly surprised that they accepted the Restaurant.com certificate on Christmas eve.

Our "Mixed Grill" plate came out of their kitchen totally BURNED. We asked the waitress to re-prepare. Second round was fine, but steak was still not cooked to order. Chicken was dry. Crab cake was fine. Front-end manager asked if everything was OK, and responded that it was; however, we were disappointed that he didn't offer us a dessert or one free meal because we had to wait an inordinate amount of time for our replacement meal. Our friends were totally finished and had to watch us eat our meal. Totally unacceptable for a restaurant of this caliber. This visit gets a very negative rating. We think the initial success of this restaurant has gone to their head. On a Sat nite, they had empty tables. That should not happen. Our wonderful server made this visit bearable.

Chef Bob provides the best prepared fine dining entrees and makes an effort to meet customers during their dining experience. The Veal Oscar and Scallops Florentine are absolutely guaranteed home runs ever time! Waiter Rob always does a very attentive and professional job in serving.

The chef came out and greeted each table personally before, during and after dinner. I have been to some of the best restaurants in the area and have never had this kind of service! The wait staff was also just awesome and on top of the menu and the wine and drink list.

After a seating crisis when the hostess told us she couldn't seat our party of 5 (there wasn't any customers in the place) it was very good food.
The waiter was very friendly and informative and the cook/owner even came out and greeted all the patrons. The entree portions were very nice.
we have been to back fin several times and always enjoy the experience. This time however, we were kinda disappointed with our meal. One in the party orderd the mixed grill and found out that part of the entree was not available and substituted. It was supposed to be veal and it ended up being rib eye that had more fat on it than desired. Then 2 people at the table ordered the sea bass and really was the reason that we went there for dinner.. and that too was sold out. Instead both got the sturgeon and it was tasty. 3 of the 4 of us also found too much salt on the food, althou the flavors were nice. One other disappointment were the jumbo wings. they were small to average size. and while they tasted great, it was disappointing that they werent jumbo.Our other appetizer was crab louie and it was delish.

Shrimp lemon overcooked
They had some very interesting specials - it was hard to choose. We got the shrimp stuffed with crab imperial, which was delicious, and a pasta dish with crab, chicken and sausage - also delicious. They were very welcoming - we'll definitely come back.
This is how a restaurant should be run! The owner and chef greeted us at our table, made us feel like we were old friends, this was our first visit. Will be returning again!

the food was delicious. Every meal was art on a plate. We had selected 3 different entrees, 2 different appetizers and a soup and every one of them was perfection. The sauces were scrumptious, the meats tender and the fish not fishy. We had 2 crab appetizers and they both had alot of crab chunks and the seafood chowder was loaded with all kinds of seafood. You definitely wont be disappointed.

The food was EXCELLENT! The Crab Louis was divine and the Filet Au Poivre was done to perfection. To get that thick a cut of beef cooked so PERFECTLY medium rare is truly an art form! We WILL return. The waitress described specials wrong which was disappointing. Soft crabs were fried when she had said they were sauted, and she said the vegetable was broccolinni but it was actually broccoli rabe. Very different and not what I wanted at all. But we love chef bob and the rest of our meal was excellent.

We made a spontaneous decision to have dinner here for our 22nd wedding anniversary and could not have picked a better place. The service was impeccable, the food absolutely amazing and the atmosphere very relaxing with a variety of blues greats playing over the sound system. The menu online was not the same menu when we got there the prices were higher and we didn't see the 2 or 3 dishes that we specifically headed there for. VERY DISAPPOINTING!! While food was good it wasn't what we wanted or expected and feel like we would not have purchased that offer had we known.

Chef Bob prepares the most awesome meals. Never a bad meal, especially the filet & rockfish. Megan the bartender is always on her game. I guarantee she will have you laughing & really enjoying yourself by the end of your meal.

Two had the veal scallopini special..absolutely delicious with fresh veal, spinach, and mushrooms....one had the prime rib special...once again a treat....and one had the filet...done just right! We had a wonderful time as usual. My only comment is that they add the tip onto the tax. There is no reason for us to tip on the tax. The taxes are high enough. We tip a good 20% or higher on our own and to be taxed on the tip is insulting!!!

This friendly unassuming spot falls between a 4 and a 5, the owner came by to inquire as to our meal, the waiter was excellent and we were made to feel totally at home and very welcome. Sad but too many restaurants act like they are doing you a favor to serve you...not here. We have already gone back and the experience was the same! Try it, you won't be disappointed.
The trout was excellent but the ravioli was just ok and not worth the price.

I was disappointed that the tip was already applied to the bill when we received it. This was not done the previous time we were there.
The meals were delicious....(2)scallop florentines....and(2) salmon specials....we enjoyed shrimp lejohn, flat bread pizza, calamari, and the house salad as well....each item was prepared fresh with a great deal of attention...even the drinks were great! We were too full to sample any desserts...next time!
Salad not served. One dessert offered free was the service recovery. Could have covered the 3 desserts. We enjoyed Cameron, our waiter. He worked hard and had a good attitude.

Overall it was a wonderful experience and we look forward to dining their again. The only thing that would have made it better was if we had been made aware of the specials by our server. My meal was delicious (chilean sea bass), but when I overheard another server telling their guests about the specials I was so disappointed that I missed trying those.

The new menu has less exciting options then the old one and the price increase is too drastic and now out weighs the food quality. Before it was good food at a great value with even better service. Now it is good food at a price that overshadows the food quality. Also seems like the wine prices have gone up at a large increment. It will be a while before we return and we were regulars. If pricing needed revamped it would have been better done in smaller increments.

We and our neighbors got together for dinner. 6 out of 8 had dined here before. Two of the couples frequently,so suggested this place. I knew there was a certificate on rest.com because I had purchased one before, so I purchased a $75 cert. for $3.50. We were all very excited about the savings and the food was great.

We have always enjoyed our visits to BFB; however, on this visit, despite reservations, we had to wait for our table maybe 15 minutes and we were disappointed to learn that, although the restaurant.com coupon does not say so, our alcohol was not included.
Wow1 What a great experience. From the website it looked like the funky little restaurant that it turned out to be. The service was great and all employees were courteous, hospitable and friendly. Meghan who was our server was tops. The owner an affable and friendly guy even by our table after dinner and I told him we had found his restaurant through restaurant.com. My wife and I had the crabcakes and they were by far the best we have ever eaten and the Backfin will be a MUST STOP for us on any trip down on 95. I was a little confused it that I was only able to use my $ 25 certificate even though our actual bill was about $ 130.00. The $25 certificate clearly states that alcohol is not included in the minimum. The $50 and above certificate states "Must comply with all state laws pertaining to the distribution of alcohol." I was told that I couldn't use it. So I came home with my $ 50.00 certificate. We went down to Baltimore from there and the Grille 700 maitre de' said that there was no such prohibition on their $ 75.00 certificate and used a $ 50.00 certificate at Light 17 for a total bill of $ 125.00 which included $ 44.00 for liquor.

Food was good, not excellent. Drove 40 minutes away from our home because of good coupon deal from restaurant.com. We like trying new places. Backfin Blues is a nice place, but we will not go 40 minutes out of our way again to eat there. Overall good experience.

The food was great, but the portions were rather small. The waitress said the fish was completely covered with crab, it only had three crab lumps. I only got four stalks of asparagus.

The food has always been excellent and the service is top-notch. Recommend going early or on a Thursday evening as it has earned a well deserved reputation for great food at a fair price and excellent service.
The only negative comment I could make is that we were disappointed. Based on the logo, information online & name of the restaurant, we were expecting to hear Blues music (even on the radio), but they played standard elevator type pop music. That was sad!

Chef Bob is excellent with a great staff. Decor is great. Would like to see more of the Cobalt Blue Glass utilized.

The overall dining experience was great. We really enjoyed the meal, our server had a very good personality and was helpful on recommendations. At the end the owner came out and introduced himself and spoke with us for a few minutes.

The service was great, young man who waited on us very friendly. The appetizer I ordered was delicious - Lobster Bisque. The dressing on my salad was Bleu Cheese and loaded with lumps. I ordered Chicken Chesapeake for my entree. The chicken was tender and the crab delicious with large lump meat. Potatoes and zucchini superb. Dessert, Swiss chocolate cake moist and creamy. We'll definitely return with more people in our party. The atmosphere was very relaxing-sat outside and watched the evening fall. Amazing! Wonderful culinary experience!

Sea Bass seem to have an overpowering orange glaze on it.$8.50 flat bread pizza was cheese & a couple chunks of tomatoes. Not worth it. Stuffed pork was very good.

Server was nice but not enthusiastic or quick. Our table - and others outside - seemed to be fogotten at times. Table was not cleared quickly enough between courses. Most of the food was terrific but the service spoiled the meal. Not likely to come back - don't want to risk it considering it was a half hour drive to get there. Chef visiting the table was a very nice touch.

Very enjoyable meal. Their wine list, although MUCH improved compared to 6 - 8 months ago, still could use diversification. On a list of this size, 3-4 oaked chardonnays and 3-4 tropical fruit heavy sauvignon blancs are too much. How about 1 or 2 Loires, a full-bodied beaujelais, a couple French red and white bourgogne, and an inexpensive and much better sparkler, perhaps Willm blanc de blanc brut?
This is a fantastic restaurant. Quaint surroundings and excellent food make this place a must visit. Truly one of the best restaurants in Harford or Cecil counties.
This is our go to special occasion restaurant! The food is delicious, haven't had anything that wasn't, and we try different things each time we are there. The fact that the chef/owner comes out to see how your meal is, says something!
Service was very good and personable,although he forgot to tell us about all the entree specials. Crab and scollops were excellent. Tuna and calamari were also very good. Salad was a little weak. It was stuff on a plate, no character or anything specila. Ciao

The food was excellent though the service was very slow. We were surpised tht the prices were as high as they were considering the restaurant is billed as a "bar and grill". The food is really more gourmet fare than the name of the business would imply and the prices go with the quality of the food rather than the "bar and grill" title.

The crab cakes were quite tasty as were the scallops. The owner and chef came out of the kitchen after our dinner and we chatted for a few moments and we gave him our compliments in person. We will return. Also his calamari is excellent, not the usual fried prep.

Due to the extreme heat the a/c was not working properly and it was very warm. The guests we had with us were not impressed with their first visit. They did enjoy the food.

Our first dining experience at Backfin Blues was wonderful. The atmosphere is relaxed yet not too loud. Our server was attentive, had a good knowledge of the foods and wines he was serving, and the meal itself was outstanding - fresh, properly seasoned, well cooked, with adequate adult portions. The chef/owner stopped by our table at the conclusion of our meal to introduce himself and thank us for coming. We certainly will return, and we put it high on the list of local restaurants to bring out of town guests.
