Any time we go up to Myrtle Beach, we make it a point to have dinner at Horst Gasthaus. At different times we spent 11 out of 20 years in the military stationed in Germany and enjoy the German food.

I was not happy when the waitress told us we had to get our bill up to $ 50.00 to meet retirement of the coupon, that we were only up to 42.99. Then we got the bill, it was actually $ 75.00. So she lied to us to get us to order dessert and bring up the bill. I will talk to the management there next time I am in.

First time to this restaurant. We have not experienced German food in Germany so we can't compare to real German food. What we had was great. The German potato salad was to die for. The atmosphere was very nice. We definitely want to return.
Very good German food. The veal schnitzel was delicious. Minimum purchase with certificate was $50 with no other restrictions but they did not include alcohol. That is a no no, as it needs to say on certificate "excludes alcohol" like some other restaurants do! Did not make a big deal as we wanted cake anyway, but it could have been annoying had we not wanted it.

Well you can’t get more authentic you don’t have to like German food to like this place the food is delicious I had all you can eat pork chops I am sorry to say that Four was more than I could eat and that was taking one home my wife ate the combination plate she also couldn’t finish her meal plenty of food the food is delicious highly recommend

The whole experience made me feel like I was in Germany for a while. The waitress was personable, the accordion player was entertaining and the food was better than we expected.
The music is inappropriate for a dining experience. We like German music with dinner but not he hokey way presented at this restaurant.
It was such great fun. We had no idea it was crazy hat night. Each guest was give a crazy hat to wear. There was an accordion player who entertained and encouraged patron participation. Great fun. The food was good. I like german food. I will return to try the bratwurst!

Service tonight was extremely slow. We must have waited at least a half hour to get our dinners. The waitress was very inattentive even though she did not have many diners in her section. We ordered the usual fare which did not require any special preparation. I will say the slow service tonight was atypical of our usual dining experience at this restaurant.

WE ate early and the restaurant was primarily occupied with young families with small children(which was fine) until the POLKA lady handed out loud noise makers and turned on the bubble machine. We were expecting nice bavarian style music unable to have a conversation once the music started.

The restaurant itself could use a face lift. The table covers, tableware, and silverware are very worn. The parking lot is a mess.

Cute little place; nicely decorated in a German motif, an accordion player on a stage and the servers are outfitted in the customary German outfits. My wife liked her chicken schnitzel with spaetzle and I liked the jager schnitzel with spaetzle. Server was super friendly, but never checked back with us until we were done. Prices are not bad ($19 for veal) and the portion sizes were decent. Worth stopping by.

Last time we were there we rated it excellent. Not as good this time. Last time we couldn't wait to come back. This time...not so much. I used to love their chicken schnitzel. Good this time but not great. My wife loved their Hungarian goulash. This time good but not great. On the other hand their apple strudel was excellent! We also like to listen to the accordion player and the German songs.

We have always loved this restaurant. Maybe a different chef? Home fries were dry and some burnt and hard. Pork cutlet was very tough in all previous trips here it has been awesome. Didn't seem the same.

Every time we go here, we are never disappointed. This time, we both thought the portions were bigger, so big that we brought home a "doggy bag" for the first time. We also thought the taste was a bit better, too.

We throughly enjoyed the food..very authentic. Our waitress was very attentive, kept our drinks refilled. She was pleasant even though our 10 year old wanted to talk her head off. We go every year when we are in Myrtle Beach for Christmas shows. We have recommended Horst Gasthaus to our friends when they are in Myrtle Beach

My husband and I are from New Jersey. The first time we went to Myrtle Beach we ate at this restaurant and we loved it! A couple of years later I went down with a friend and our sons and we went there again and loved it. My husband and I just made another trip down there and I made a point to go back again.

The staff was very accommodating. We walked in late and they kept kitchen open for us. They did not rush us and made us very comfortable. The food we ordered was delicious. Can’t wait to go back and try something new. Portion sizes big.......have lunch/dinner for tomorrow.

The restaurant was easy to find with plenty of parking. Our server was very pleasant and familiar with German dishes and their preparation so she could explain differences in regional preparation of some items. Portion sizes were generous, even for veal dishes, and well prepared. My wife had the beef Rouladen and it was just like my grandparents and mother used to make it.

We do not get here frequently only because we live hundreds of miles away, but when we do come to Myrtle Beach South Carolina we always come here at least once in our week here. It is wonderful.

Best meal we had in the Myrtle Beach area and the locals must know it too since the place was pretty well packed. Still, service and time to wait on food was not a problem at all. Highly recommend!!

The food was outstanding as always. Our wait for service and our meals was very long due to a large party that arrived just before we did. We were not informed that there would be a wait until we asked "how much longer?" and the waitress explained at that point what had happened. We were not offered any extras for the long wait, and when dinner finally arrived it was well presented and wonderful.

Jaeger schnitzel was delicious as was the apple strudel for dessert. Wine portions are generous and service was excellent. Enjoyed listening to a group dinging along with the accordion player. Very enjoyable evening and we'll be back soon.

The food and service were both good. The rye bread was excellent. The least favorite item was the sauerbraten, dry and chewy. Schnitzel and smoked pork chop were very good. The worst part of the experience was the extremely loud accordion music that made conversation almost impossible.

Great unprentious restaurant, basic dining area and bar, however what sets this restaurant from others is the cordial staff. The wait staff patiently explained terms we were unfamiliar with and offered recommendations to our party. They were very attentive to our every need. Background accordion music added to the Bavarian atmosphere.
The food is always excellent with generous portions. High grades to the chef. If there is any down side it is only the vegetables which are straight out of a can but that does not diminish the rest of the excellent food.

My husband and daughter did not feel well. We parked in the back and by the back door was an outside sink and a container overflowing. Not too appetizing. Then when we asked to take the leftovers home, they gave us used walmart bags with stuff in them. It was gross to say the least.

Staff is super nice. Place has a certain kitschy charm. A lot like dining at Grandma's house. Sausages and vegetables were good. Portions are enormous. Dumpling (rubbery), gravy (powdered?),and schnitzel (not pounded and tough) were not the best. Service was excellent. Accordian player was sweet. I really wanted to like this place. There is a certain warmth about it, but the food is just not very good.

My husband has special needs and I explained to our waitress he can't swallow very well due to Dysphia. He still likes to taste a bite or two and asked if he could have a plate so I could give him a bite. She said that's Sharing so I have to charge you $3.00 thats our policy. Well, it seems that way I guess however, waitress didn't seem to care and only appeared about the money. So I paid the extra $3 charge but may not Return. Most restaurants understand feeding tube issues and special needs and seem to care about customers. I did not feel like I should have been charged extra for his part.

The staff and food were excellent. We sat in the bar area at a table in front of the window so we could watch the planes. I love being able to sit at a table and look out at the planes as I eat. I got the short ribs over corn pudding and a house salad. Almost licked my plate. We were told there was a limited menu or a small buffet to choose from for our meals. However when we said we expected the full menu they said 'no problem' and gave us the full menu. The wait staff were so pleasant and attentive.

Food was definitely German, and the waitresses were dressed in cute German dresses. A very pleasant gentleman played the accordian and took requests from the patrons. The crowd seemed to be regulars. A very authentic German restaurant.
Good food that always tastes great. Very consistent. Only problem, and its happened more than once, is the serving sizes can vary considerably on the same menu selection. This time my wife and I both got the Sauerbraten dinners and the amount of difference in meat varied "greatly". If the portion control was as good as the flavor, this place would be a TEN.
The food came very fast and it was very good, as usual. Waitress very nice and accomodating.

Prompt service and a good atmosphere. I was very disappointed with some of the meal. The home fries were horrible. They were hard and burnt on the edges. They really should have been thrown out but I am not one to complain . The pork schnitzel was ok. I've had better.

I presented the restaurant.com certificate before ordering, and the server said we had to order two beverages. I'm pretty sure the certificate didn't say that, but of course they retained it, so I couldn't check.

Sauerbraten is always good here although last nites was including a big end piece which was really tough. Wifes dish was good. Will always give it another try, everyone is allowed a little-OOPS.
The wiener schnitzle was very greasy the homefries for 3 were mostly burned..We go once or twice a year.. Ilove German food, this was not what I was looking forward to.

The food was terrific. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff was very friendly. We had on MAJOR issue using this certificate. When you give them your certificate, they add 20% gratuity before your certificate is deducted (in our instance w/ 2 adults, 2 small children - $11 tip). Our service was not worth an $11 tip. I give waitresses a fair tip but think that $11 w/ no alcohol, extra service, big mess or excessive trips to bring things is ridiculous for a small family.

There was a cook wanted sign on the building, we soon found out why. The pancakes were horrid! Cold, burnt, tasteless. The rest of the food was not much better. We felt sorry for the owners because something was definitely wrong. There is no way they stayed in buisness so long serving this food. This was probably a great restaurant at one time and maybe it is again. Unfortunately we hit a very bad time in this restaurants history.

I was pretty plesed with the atmosphere, the portions, and the quality of the food. I loved the live music. I was a bit surprised that my Polish traveling companion thought it was just "OK". That is why I didn't rate the food "excellent".

Entrees were excellent. Side dishes were a little bland. Live music that night. Parents let small kids venture onto stage and take tambourines, etc and create a racket. Mgmt did nothing to stop it. Really ruined the atmosphere.

The Gasthaus atmosphere and decor were pretty authentic. The live accordion music was a nice accent. Service was efficient. Food was plentiful and good but was not the best German food I have eaten, I have German heritage and can be a little more discerning about taste. I would return to try other dishes since I do not like to judge a restaurant on one visit.

This was bt far the best German Restaurant in the area.Also,the first time that i ordered the sauerbrauten in any german rest.I always ask for a sample of the sauce before ordering and it was very good.Plan to return and bring others with us.
The first thing we noticed was the beautiful decor. The second thing was the dirty bread plate-not a good start. The sauerkraut and red cabbage was very good. The piece of veal was a good size and tasty. Fake potatoes with gravy does not add much. Apple struedel was excellent.
